Ralph Johnson, P.E.


Mr. Johnson is a retired engineer who brings more than 49 years’ experience in facilities management, construction planning/contracting, and environmental protection to his service on St. Mary’s Hospital Board. He is a team-builder and systems-thinker with a proven record of success in long-range capital planning, program coordination, and project management.

Prior to his retirement in 2022, Mr. Johnson served as associate vice president of the University of Georgia Facilities Management Division for 20 years. Prior to that, he was director of plant operations/physical plant for Penn State University in University Park, Penn.; head of facilities management for the Chief of Naval Education and Training Office in Pensacola, Fla., and special assistant for environment and OSHA with the Office of the U.S. Navy Inspector General in Washington, DC.

In addition, during his more than 20-year career with the U.S. Navy, he served as executive officer, Presidential Retreat Camp David; deputy acquisition head, NAVFAC Headquarters, Washington; public works officer, Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, S.C.; resident officer in charge of construction, Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Ga.; and numerous other assignments.

Mr. Johnson received his Bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, cum laude, from Penn State University and his Master of science degree, also in electrical engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a multi-disciplinary certificate in energy engineering.
